    JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

     

    JOB/CLASSIFICATION TITLE: RESEARCH ASSOCIATE II

     

     

    ETR is in need of a remarkable Research Associate II! Do you have experience with research/project coordination in Health Education? Our multidisciplinary staff of health educators, program developers, trainers, curriculum specialists, writers, editors, graphic artists, librarians, publication and distribution experts, technologists and social scientists work to transform outcomes in four areas:

    • HIV, sexual, and reproductive health (HIV/SRH)
    • School-based health and wellness
    • Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
    • Equity and inclusion in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields

    JOB SUMMARY

     

    The Research Associate II will work with the Senior Research Associates as well as other science staff in the timely accomplishment of varying research/evaluation activities. Current projects for which responsibility may be assigned include Community Impact Solutions, California MCAH technical assistance and evaluation, and Project Legacy. This position participates in departmental and agency duties in addition to:

     

    ESSENTIAL (CORE) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may also be assigned)

     

    • Serves as Project Coordinator and/or assumes primary responsibility for carrying out the design and implementation of specific project activities, including, but not limited to: instrument development, literature reviews, needs assessments, content analysis, focus group interviews, classroom observations, and data collection/management/analysis.
    • Supervises project staff, including conducting performance evaluations; updating job descriptions, monitoring employee professional development and mentoring opportunities and advancement; recommending reclassifications and/or salary adjustments as appropriate; and responding timely to disciplinary issues.
    • Shares leadership responsibility for establishing and maintaining positive, productive staff morale, attitudes and team cohesiveness in the department and, when applicable in the division.
    • Helps design and refine Department research protocols (e.g., data collection and reporting processes).
    • Tracks and assesses status of research tasks for projects.
    • Interacts with funders, and/or serves as liaison with clients.
    • Prepares project reports (e.g., progress, annual, and final reports).
    • Assists with developing new project ideas and writing grant proposals.
    • Participates in writing research manuscripts for publication in professional journals.
    • Participates in agency, division and department meetings.
    • Participates in professional activities as appropriate (e.g., takes classes to enhance expertise in assigned content areas, attends conferences, co-authors research manuscripts).
    • Provides technical assistance to ETR staff as needed.

     

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop on line survey tools and needs assessments.
    • Develop electronic tracking and database systems.
      • Develop training and technical assistance materials for dissemination (such as webinars, tip sheets, training designs)
      • Deliver webinars, presentations, and trainings in collaboration with other team members to project stakeholders (such as CBOs, teachers, data collectors, colleagues)
    • Conduct data analysis and verification checks as needed in coordination with data manager.

     

    SPEFCIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree or equivalent in Education, Program Evaluation, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related area; educational background in research and evaluation preferred.
    • At least 4 years post-Master’s experience with research and/or project coordination.
    • Considerable expertise in high impact HIV prevention, teen pregnancy prevention, and sexual and reproductive health.
    • Ability to adapt to time line adjustments and reorganize work accordingly.
    • Responsible and able to follow through on all tasks with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage several tasks simultaneously.
    • Willingness to travel.
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytic, verbal, and writing skills.
    • Ability to manage and mentor junior staff successfully.
    • Experience in research and evaluation design, instrument development, quantitative and qualitative data collection/management/analysis; interview skills are required.
    • Proficiency in Word, SPSS, and Excel are desirable.
    • Valid California driver’s license; acceptable DMV record and proof of insurance required.

    JOB SUMMARY

    Reporting to the Senior Research Scientist, the Project Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations of one large project or multiple small projects ($600,000 or less). Plans, coordinates, designs and delivers project activities in the School-Based Health and Wellness content area. Writes reports, supervises staff, assists in resource development and contributes to business unit strategic planning.  This position participates in departmental and agency duties in addition to:

    ESSENTIAL (CORE) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may also be assigned)

     

    • Provides leadership in initiation and maintenance of project activities and oversees day-to-day operations of assigned project as well as facilitates project meetings, as needed.
    • Works independently to coordinate, develop, design and deliver all project services, protocols and activities, including planning, logistics, production, and implementation.
    • Participates in hiring, training and supervising of staff, contributes to annual staff evaluations and assumes leadership in establishing positive department morale and cohesiveness.
    • Researches, conceptualizes, and develops new ideas for all major trainings, workshops and presentations related to the provision of project activities.
    • Maintains expertise in project focus area(s), including staying up-to-date in research, program literature, interventions and strategies.
    • Works with other staff and consultants in the development and delivery of project activities.
    • Contributes to the development and management of project budgets, including under-spending or over-spending. Understands how project costs fit into the larger budget.
    • Provides written contributions to the strategic planning and helps conceptualize potential projects.
    • As directed, independently writes progress reports or sections of progress reports.
    • Takes a leadership role in resource development efforts to sustain projects beyond their initial funding period.
    • Serves as project liaison, interacting collaboratively and effectively with clients, partners and other stakeholders as well as is key liaison with funders.
    • Contributes to ETR resource development efforts through contributions to conceptualization of new project ideas, proposal writing, budget development and communications (as appropriate) with potential funders.
    • Contributes to the development of ETR policies as requested.

     

    OTHER:

    • Conducts advanced quantitative data analysis, using SPSS and/or STATA and presents data accurately via reports, power points, presentations, and/or data summaries.
    • Uses science-based data visualization approaches for inclusion in reports and presentations for multiple audiences.

     

    SPEFCIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree, MPH or equivalent in related field.
    • Minimum of five years’ experience within area of expertise. 
    • Minimum of three years’ experience as Project Coordinator.
    • Two-three years of supervisory experience.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using SPSS and/or STATA.
    • Demonstrable experience in developing and delivering data summaries, reports, and presentations. 
    • Experience with school-based health and wellness projects desirable.
    • Strong skills in group facilitation and presentation.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • Highly developed people skills; ability to work with diverse groups of people.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to develop and manage project budgets.
    • Ability to provide initiative and independently manage a complex project with multiple tasks from conception to completion.
    • Ability to balance completion of designated project tasks, both short and long-term, with the performance of routine duties.
    • Ability to meet short deadlines, and willingness to work additional hours during deadline periods.
    • Ability to travel as assigned.
    • Valid California driver’s license, acceptable DMV record and proof of auto insurance required.
