Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Walking the Talk

Nonprofits and foundations across the country are doing tremendous work advocating for social justice, promoting inclusion in our communities, and opening doors for historically marginalized populations. However, we aren’t always “walking the talk” within our own organizations to cultivate equitable and inclusive cultures.

During this session we'll cover a a list of “tough questions” for us to reflect upon our organizational systems and daily work lives, to move beyond words and toward action.

In today's world, continual professional development is critical to career advancement, but the options are many! Some provide valuable 1-on-1 support, others tangible skills development. With limited time and resources, how do you know what's right for you at this point in your career? And once you know what you want, how do you go about finding the right resource?

Before we start answering the questions of "do I need a mentor, coach, or masters," this workshop will have you considering the "why" you are looking for professional development. What are you hoping to accomplish and where are you trying to go in your career? To facilitate the "why" and the "how," we'll explore through this hands-on workshop:
  • THE WHY: What are my career development interests and concerns?
  • 1-on-1 SUPPORT: How can a mentor or coach help me? How do I find one?
  • FORMAL EDUCATION: Should I get a masters degree and what type? What about certificate or fellowship programs?
  • EMPLOYER BUY-IN: Can my employer be resource and how do I gain their support?

  • Leadership Definition – What is it? What is it not?
  • Leadership Reality – What’s the good, the bad, and the ugly?
  • Leadership Purpose – Why does it exist?
  • Leadership Philosophy – What is yours?
